FIA GT2: ProSpeed & Richard Westbrook sind FIA GT2 Meister! Drexler stolzer Sperren-Lieferant!

FIA GT2: Mit Drexler Sperrdifferenzial FIA GT2 Meister. Team ProSpeed und Richard Westbrook machen den Sack in Zolder zu!

ProSpeed Competition, Richard Westbrook and Manu Collard FIA GT2 champions

ZOLDER, 25/10/2009. “I’m obviously delighted to be the FIA GT2 champion,
but it hasn’t really sunk in as yet. I rather miss not having Manu Collard next to
me on the podium, and here at this Press conference table...”, these were
Richard Westbrook’s first words, the new FIA GT2 champion clinched at Zolder.
“But tomorrow I’ll wake up and realise what we, Manu, the team, Porsche and I
have achieved. In my eyes we have all become champions! A word of thanks to
the team and Marco Holzer, because today we drove the perfect race which
culminated with a great victory.” Niki Lanik won the Porsche Manufacturer’s
Cup in FIA GT3.

Prior to the Zolder weekend the Porsche teams were fully revised. Richard Westbrook,
who together with Manu Collard has enjoyed a brilliant season, was teamed up with
Marco Holzer for the occasion in Zolder. “Seeing the 2010 evolution of the AF Corse’s
Ferrari 430, our immediate rivals in the championship, had already been entered at Paul
Ricard and quite clearly was showing a strong potential, we were obliged to counter act.
This counter action was to ensure that our two drivers, Manu Collard and Richard
Westbrook, would receive extra chances to clinch the title. In that light all Porsche teams
combined their strengths. Manu was given a drive with Martin Ragginger and with us
Marc Lieb reinforced the team with Darryl. The outcome produced some highly
competitive teams as also low additional weights”, team manager Rudi Penders
explained.

During the closing round of the FIA GT at Circuit Zolder ProSpeed Competition won the
drivers’ title. In-house driver Richard Westbrook, following his victory at Zolder together
with Marco Holzer clinched the 2009 title. Earlier in the season, together with his regular
team-mate Manu Collard he won the rounds at Silverstone, Adria and Budapest and so
together they laid the foundations for the title. “We worked really hard this year and
notwithstanding some bad luck, just remember how we were driven off in Oschersleben,
as also a few other difficult moments, we have now made it to being champions. I’m fully
convinced that we deserved to become champions”, the brand new champion concluded.
Richard Westbrook, at the wheel of the Porsche with start number #60 took a strong
start and came through in second place for the first pit-stop. “And the team performed
brilliantly with their pit work, because I was able to get back on track in the lead”, Marco
Holzer commented. Holzer and Westbrook then finished off their assignment and won the
race with a substantial lead.

Following an excellent race Marc Lieb and Darryl O’Young finished in eighth place, giving
ProSpeed Competition a second place in the FIA GT2 team championship. A second place
also ensures an entry for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Austrian Niki Lanik also did what was asked of him for ProSpeed Competition. He
won the Porsche Manufacturer’s Cup in the FIA GT3, and as such a second title for
ProSpeed Competition. The result of the second FIA GT3 race had not as yet been made
official when sending out this press release.

ProSpeed Competition also made a come-back in the Belgian GT Championship with
Franz Lamot and Richard Westbrook. The Liege based team did this with great verve,
because on Saturday Richard Westbrook clocked up a second best qualifying time and on
Sunday together with Franz Lamot drove a strong race to finish in third place. Later on
the day Lamot and Westbrook confirmed ProSpeed’s potential by finishing in an excellent
fourth place. “Who knows this might imply the return of ProSpeed Competition in the
Belgian GT or Belcar...”, Rudi Penders concluded.
ProSpeed Competition will be finishing off the season with the 10 Hours of Zolder on 14th
November.
